Pink Ribbon Pins
How to Make Pink Ribbon Pins (Do-It-Yourself) Pink ribbon pins are the basic foundation of breast cancer awareness. Before pink ribbon pins became known worldwide, there are peach ribbons being distributed by a cancer warrior urging the public to wear it to “wake up” legislators to provide more funding for breast cancer research. Later on, it was decided that pink ribbon pins are to be used as an international symbol for breast cancer awareness. The pink ribbon advocacy has started out as a simple pink ribbon lace formed into a ribbon, stitched or glued onto the collar or lapel. To make the basic pink ribbon pins, only few materials are required: three inches of pink lace/ribbon (quarter-inch wide), small safety pin, and needle (optional). read more
First, snip both ends of the three inches pink ribbon at an angle. Arrange the ribbon out horizontally with the shorter edge on top. While holding down the ribbon’s midpoint, grab the left end and fold so it points down slightly across the midpoint. Then fold the right end in the same manner so that the ribbon crosses itself about a half inch below the fold. Folds can either be a crisp line or soft curve. Hold the ribbon in place by securing it with small safety pin or sewn together either by machine or hand. Then attach the pink ribbon pins onto a collar or lapel using the same safety pin, concealing it behind the ribbon or can also be sewn onto the shirt and securing it with a few stitches at the back. Nowadays, beautifully crafted metal pink ribbon pins are also available to cater to the ever changing needs of consumers. Unlike DIY pink ribbon pins, metal pink ribbon pins are more durable and can easily be worn at any time and any day. read less
